Pyramid Model
What is it?
The Pyramid Model is a proven, strengths-based framework that empowers early childhood educators to create calm, connected, and inclusive learning environments. Unlike one-off programs, the Pyramid Model offers a tiered approach that supports all children, including those at risk of social, emotional, or behavioural challenges.
Grounded in evidence and implementation science, the Pyramid Model builds educator confidence, strengthens relationships with families, and improves outcomes across key AEDC domains—including social competence, emotional maturity, communication, and cognitive development.
What sets the Pyramid Model apart is its focus on sustainable, whole-of-service change. With ongoing coaching, adaptable resources, and a commitment to inclusion, it integrates seamlessly into play-based learning and honours each child’s background and needs.
Whether you’re supporting children in metro centres or remote communities, the Pyramid Model ensures every child has the foundation to feel safe, succeed socially, and thrive emotionally—today and into the future.
Expected Outcomes:
- Improved social skills, self-regulation and coping skills
- Reduced behavioural challenges
- Increased educator confidence and competence in supporting children’s social competence and emotional maturity
How the program is delivered:
The Pyramid Model is a flexible, evidence-based framework that fits seamlessly into early learning settings and supports positive outcomes for all children. Training is available in in-person, live online, self-paced, or hybrid formats to suit your team’s needs. Support includes introductory training, full implementation, and tailored coaching.
Step one is the Pyramid Model Leadership Training to ensure leadership understanding and tools help ensure high-quality, program-wide implementation.
It’s delivered to staff through a three-tiered approach that builds staff capability while fostering inclusive, emotionally supportive environments:
Tier 1 – Universal Supports (Module 1): Nurturing relationships and high-quality, inclusive environments that benefit every child.
Tier 2 – Targeted Supports (Module 2): Small group strategies that help children develop social-emotional skills like self-regulation, empathy, and problem-solving.
Tier 3 – Individualised Supports (Modules 3a & 3b): Strategies for understanding the reasons behind persistent behaviours and creating effective, personalised behaviour support plans.
